Penticton Indian Band Wildfire Services
Penticton, BC
2013 – Present
For many communities in the wildland-urban interface, organizational resources and capacity constraints may limit opportunities to pursue wildfire risk reduction projects. Often the time resources or staff required for project management can be a substantial barrier to pursuing this important work. We provide end-to-end services for wildfire planning, which include project management services, grant, and funding writing, assisting with selecting and prioritizing areas for treatment, conducting the necessary assessments, developing the plans, and implementing the work.
Over the past 10 years, Cabin has worked with Penticton Indian Band (PIB) on various wildfire fuel mitigation projects. We have provided a full suite of wildfire services including:
- grant writing,
- project management,
- a CWPP update,
- prescription layout,
- development fuel mitigation on band land, and
- supervision services during fuel mitigation activities.
Working with the PIB Natural Resource Department, Cabin incorporated traditional knowledge. Sylix food, social, and ceremonial values were considered in addition to stand-level biodiversity, species at risk, and other ecosystem objectives. The fuel mitigation plans incorporated considerations for prescribed fire and traditional practices.
