Mission Creek Greenway Bridges/Abutment Protection Repairs
CLIENT/LOCATION

DIVISIONS INVOLVED
The Mission Creek Greenway Bridges project focused on restoring three riprap revetments to protect the abutments of pedestrian bridges within the park. To achieve this, three channel diversions were constructed using dams to redirect the main water flows. Key steps included fish salvage and close coordination with hydrologists, geotechnical experts, and environmental monitors to ensure compliance with the Section 11 permit and environmental management plan. Riprap was placed according to engineered designs and best practices, while streamside and instream substrate were restored and rehabilitated post-construction. Additionally, the project included trail construction and rehabilitation, as well as felling dangerous trees, chipping, and pruning to mitigate fire risk and improve recreational use.
Despite a large precipitation event during the 14-day fisheries timing window, which halted much of the work, adaptability and time management were key to keeping the project on track. By reallocating resources and adjusting tasks during weather delays, the team successfully met the project’s objectives within the tight deadline.
