Middle Vernon Creek Offsetting Restoration

Middle Vernon Creek Offsetting Remediation

District of Lake Country, Lake Country BC

2021

The District of Lake Country required a restoration offset as part of a bridge and culvert replacement at Bottom Wood Lake Road. The restoration of four sites on Middle Vernon Creek required removing large debris piles and blockages, bank stabilization, spawning gravel placement, boulder placement and restoration planting. The clean up required working within a short fish window, coordinating with multiple stakeholders and following the Construction Environmental Management Plan. Passive and active creek diversions were utilized to dewater sections of the creek while excavation and removal activities took place.

This project was considered a resounding success when kokanee were seen spawning in the areas where the work was completed, only weeks after completion.
