Forest Resource Management Projects

Cabin has assisted with Interfor’s Southern Interior woodlands planning and operations for the past nine years. Provide a spectrum of services from site-level engineering and development to landscape level planning. These higher-level plans include Total Resource Management Plans with an emphasis on timber.

Relevance: Each project, whether at the site or landscape level, is implemented with an integrated approach to resource management. Our forest resource development projects often occur adjacent to Wildlife Habitat Areas, Conservation Areas and BC Parks. As such we are required to manage for the natural, wildlife, conservation values of these protected areas. Planning objectives for these projects followed: the Kootenay-Boundary Higher Level Plan Order; Government Action Regulations as they pertain to ungulate winter range; Forest Stewardship Plans, and all relevant legislation.

At the site-level, range values were managed for on all blocks. This included but was not limited to: maintenance of natural range barriers, maintenance of existing fence lines, proposed construction of cattleguards, etc.

Role: Cabin provides full-phase forest tenure management services  – project management, professional forestry services, technical forestry services, coordination with other resource professionals i.e. Professional Engineers, Professional Geoscientists, Registered Professional Biologists and Professional Agrologists. We assist with stakeholder referrals including other tenure holders and First Nations

Delivered Timber Resource Management Plans (maps, tables and reports), Cutting Permits, Site Plans, Appraisals, Block Packages, Riparian Summaries, Species-at-risk summaries, Harvest Plans.

End Result: Management for and protection of all non-timber values. Incorporation of all Cost-effective extraction of timber for the mill.
