DIVISIONS INVOLVED

Heritage

After the 2023 McDougall Creek Wildfire caused extensive damage at Camp OAC, Cabin started working with the Okanagan Anglican Camp in early 2024. What began as a quick property check turned into a full archaeological overview of the Camp’s 20-hectare site, and a Heritage Management Plan built in collaboration with the Westbank First Nation’s Archaeology Office.

From there, we carried out archaeological impact assessments in the Camp’s recovery areas. Throughout the project, we’ve worked closely with the Okanagan Indian Band and Westbank First Nation — helping shape project designs, draft deliverables, and put together management recommendations that respect both the Heritage Conservation Act and DRIPA.

Our work with Camp OAC is ongoing. In 2025, we’ll be shifting gears to support the construction phase, providing archaeological monitoring within registered site areas.

This project is a good example of how we work: building strong relationships with First Nations and clients, making sure heritage management plans meet regulatory needs, and reflecting the priorities of the Nations we work with. It also shows how Cabin can guide projects from first steps on the ground through to construction, with a focus on doing things right.
