Lumby Bike Park

Background

Cabin has a team of mountain bike enthusiasts that make up our recreation and environmental teams. When we had the opportunity to create a bike park in our own backyard, it was a dream come true!

Cabin designed and constructed a pump track, skills park, and intermediate jump line complete with park features, drainage structures, irrigation layout, and site grading for landscaping. Park features included rollers, tabletops, berms, log rides, rock gardens, and rock table tops.

Our machine operators and trail builders brought their ideas, enthusiasm and bikes to ensure this park did not just look good, it rode well for bikers of all skill levels.

Challenge

There was a short work window for shaping and placement of soil before frost so our crews had to be efficient and well-coordinated as they constructed the park. This project also had a limited budget so our crews had to be creative to give the Village of Lumby the most features at an economical rate. Communication and coordination with the Village were essential for this project to be a success.

Solution

Because the budget was limited, the sub-base material was provided by the Village and trucking was donated through the coordination with an existing project that was taking place at the same time. This material would have otherwise been wasted if it were not for some innovative solutions and coordination.

The short timeline to complete the projects meant Cabin had to mobilize more equipment and crews to ensure the project was completed before Winter. Our team banded together and put in the time to make sure this park was the best it could be…and of course tested it many times to get those berms and jump lines just right!
