Champion Lakes Park Fuel Management Prescription

Champion Lakes Park Fuel Management Prescription

West Kootenays
2017-2018

Provided wildfire consulting services and provided a site-level prescription for Champion Lakes Provincial Parks.  Assessed and collected field data on approximately 40 ha of the park including information on the fuels, ecology, site and stands.

Worked closely with BC Parks staff to ensure we followed their fuel management prescription template. Any strategies or measures we prescribed for tree removal had to follow both the Best Management Practices for Tree Removals in Parks and Protected Areas (Planning and Harvesting). Required to follow other guidance documents related directly to the park; BC Parks Fire Hazard Assessment, Archaeological Impact Assessment and Species-at-Risk Inventory. All aspects of the  2004 Management Direction Statement for Champion Lakes Provincial Parks were incorporated into the final plan.

Conducted all the field assessments, project management, client liaison and office work (maps and prescription).

Delivered maps and a fuel management prescription that protected the park values and mitigated the wildfire risk.

End Result: Once the fuel management prescription is implemented, the wildfire risk to park values and human health and safety will be reduced.
